Tom Galvanek, CSAM

CEO

Tom has decades of international experience in the chemicals and related materials industries. With BS and MS degrees in chemistry, he has held positions in R&D, sales and marketing, business development, and top management, including President, in global firms in these industries. He has worked for or provided professional services to most major companies in these industries. Candidates and clients value his extensive experience and detailed knowledge. This, combined with his ability to listen carefully and understand the needs of all parties, guarantees that every engagement results in a successful match. Tom takes pride in the high level of professionalism and service everyone on his team provides. “Our standard is to always provide a level of service that pleasantly surprises both our clients and candidates. They deserve nothing less.” Tom is CEO of The Chatham Group. His special area of focus is placing impact players with technical backgrounds in key positions throughout North America.

Alden Galvanek SHRM-CP, CSAM

President

Alden is President and Co-Owner of The Chatham Group. He believes in keeping a constant focus on developing and strengthening culture to foster honesty, openness, transparency, and trust for employees, clients, and candidates. With over 18 years of experience working within every level of the talent acquisition industry, Alden strives to partner with organizations, helping them locate and hire top-quality talent in the chemicals, plastics, color-concentrates, and technology industries. Throughout his growth within The Chatham Group, Alden has held critical roles within operations and human resources, maintaining the company’s infrastructure and personnel systems. He understands the complexities of a world-class recruiting process and is forever vigilant in maintaining a servant leadership model of business within The Chatham Group.

Michael J. Mueller

Director of Recruiting & Search Operations

Mike brings over 35 years of multinational Operations, Technical & Quality leadership within the specialty chemicals & materials, coatings, ceramics, and Advanced Materials industries. Having held positions of Managing Director, VP & President has enabled Mike to effect meaningful and lasting impact on these enterprises. Within these roles, Mike has walked in the shoes of most any operational and technical roles industry, having led multiple businesses, engineering & technology, and operations through change and challenges, deploying the many tools of quality, innovation, continuous improvement, and Operational Excellence within multiple industrial & technology environments, improving performance across many segments and venues. Having key leadership responsibilities and achievements in start-ups, small, medium & large businesses, both private and public, provides Mike with solid insights into differing organizational dynamics, cultures, and operating philosophies. This unique set of skills enables him to enhance the Client-Candidate matching experience in an expedient and efficient manner fostering success for all parties. Realizing that the successful match extends well beyond the quantitative skills of the candidate, Mike is keenly aware of those attributes contributing to the overall positive achievement and is adept at finding the best technical match and the best cultural match for our clients.

Jana Ropski, SHRM-CP

Operations Manager

Jana joined The Chatham Group in February 2016. As our Operations Manager, she helps maintain the company’s infrastructure, personnel systems, and takes on the task of finances. Jana officially passed her SHRM exam and is now our very own SHRM-CP Operations Manager. This adds being our personnel support system to her repertoire. She is passionate about her job and working hard to provide the best to our Employees, Clients, and Candidates. Jana views every day as a new opportunity to impact people’s lives and does her best to be a light to brighten their day. Jana enjoys off-roading and duck wrangling when she’s not slaying The Tail of The Dragon.

Bob Grashoff

Director of Recruiting: Industrial Gases and Electronic Chemicals

Bob works as a Recruiter, with responsibility for the Industrial Gas Division of our practice. Bob brings to The Chatham Group over 30 years of experience in the industrial gas industry. He spent his entire career at Air Products and Chemicals where he worked in sales, sales management, general management and mergers and acquisitions. During that time he traveled over two million air miles and has done business in twelve different countries. Bob has an MBA from the College of William and Mary and an undergraduate degree in Public Administration from the University of Missouri.

Carrington D. Smith

Executive Recruiting – Chemicals

In providing value to both clients and candidates, Carrington leverages over 25 years of his background skills in the chemical industry. His experiences have spanned research and development, innovation management, intellectual property licensing, venture capital, mergers and acquisition and general management. He has direct individual and management experience in all of these areas and can understand what it takes to fulfill such roles in a diverse range of organizations. Further, he has been in the position of candidates and can appreciate the need to advance one’s career via both traditional in-house promotions or by transitioning to new employers. Carrington spent 21 years with Air Products and Chemicals, progressing through many technology and business roles in the Fortune 500 industrial gases and chemicals company. In 2014, Carrington joined MPD Chemicals, a private equity-backed custom manufacturer of specialty chemicals, as its CEO. Via organic and inorganic growth, multiple areas of internal continuous improvement, and empowering its employees, Carrington led MPD through a journey culminating with the sale of the company in 2019. With management and leadership experience at both large public multinational and small-midsize private companies, Carrington can help a diverse array of clients with their executive and technical recruiting needs. He has a Ph.D. in Chemistry with a focus in Polymer Science from Virginia Tech and a B.S. in Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University.

John Hillenbrand

Account Executive / Talent Advisor

John joined the Chatham Group in 2021 after closing his 37-year industrial career spanning four companies and multiple industries. He’s committed to serving clients and candidates by leveraging his diverse leadership experiences in research & development, engineering, product/process development, design, innovation, corporate venturing, intellectual property management, product management, continuous improvement, and operations. His industrial roles include packaging (rigid and flexible), building materials, composite reinforcements, industrial polymers, automotive, personal care, safety and protection, aramid fibers, and elastomers.

Reflecting on his career, having been the beneficiary of someone who believed in him and took a chance on him at different pivotal moments is why John wants to return the favor to anyone he can help navigate their career paths. Having relocated several times with his wife and kids while at DuPont, Owens Corning, Armstrong Flooring, and Graham Packaging, he understands that a role change can have far-reaching implications for the candidate, their family, and overall support system.
John received his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and his master’s and doctoral degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, all in chemical engineering. He has served as an Adjunct Professor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Fox Business School at Temple University. He remains active in professional associations as a member of the American Chemical Society, a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and an Emeritus member of the Innovation Research Interchange.

Michael Hunt

Recruiter / Talent Advisor

Michael brings over 25 years of experience in business development, technical marketing, and research and development in specialty chemicals, polymer contract research, and synthetic textile fibers with companies including DuPont, Dow, and Milliken Chemical. Michael spent much of his career at the customer interface in various industries, understanding and delivering on technical and market needs. He is committed to bringing this same approach to serve clients and candidates.
Michael is an active member of the American Chemical Society Division of Polymer Chemistry (ACS POLY) and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE).
He has a B.S. and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, focused on Polymer Science with Professor Joseph DeSimone.

Frank Fadil

National Recruiter – Chemicals

Frank brings to The Chatham Group 30 years of experience in the global petrochemicals, chemicals, plastics, medical devices and pharmaceuticals industries. He is now channeling his proven entrepreneurial, consulting and general management acumen to assist organizations in finding and developing the best talent. Earlier in his career, Frank held the position of Global Business Development Director/QA Manager for medium size generic pharmaceuticals and medical diagnostic companies. His experience also includes twenty years in management, and industrial consulting with several major industrial management-consulting firms. This included fourteen years in technical management and quality assurance positions at a major pharmaceutical company. He holds both BS and MS Degrees in Chemistry and completed advanced studies in Physical Chemistry. At The Chatham Group, Frank remains focused on working with clients in the chemicals and related science-based industries to confidentially identify the most talented individuals and successfully bring them on board. He enjoys the challenge of his mission, and the opportunity to make new contacts at both senior and middle level management positions through networking.

Adam Mueller

Talent Acquisition Specialist

Joining the Chatham Group in 2019, Adam brings an engineering background with experience in the broad field of advanced materials. He has his degree in Materials Engineering with his specialization being Bioengineering Biomaterials from Clemson University. His focus within the Chatham Group lies with finding talented Process Engineers, Production Engineers, Project Engineers, and other similar titles in the advanced materials industry. Some of Adam’s greatest strengths include outside of the box problem solving, and taking his engineering process improvement mindset and applying it to the recruiting process.

Matt McGrath

Informatics and Sourcing Specialist

Matt has over 20 years of direct customer service experience and exemplifies being a ‘people person.’ He always strives to place quality communications at the heart of everything. He brings high energy and an eagerness to learn and contributes to The Chatham Group by placing quality candidates with respected clients. Securing lasting employment is more important than ever, and he genuinely and sincerely seeks to assist in matching great candidates to career-changing opportunities.

Maddie Benson

Talent Acquisition Specialist

Maddie leverages her degree in Communication with a specialization in Human Psychology from Michigan State University to provide a hands-on recruiting experience tailored to her Client’s needs. Maddie prides herself on taking the time to research and truly understand any business she partners with to place talent that is both a cultural and technical fit. She has made placements in many industries and can quickly get up to speed on new sectors. Maddie’s strengths include building meaningful relationships with candidates and clients, completing targeted research to identify A-players faster, and being detail-oriented.
