Tom Galvanek, CSAM

Tom has over 30 years of international experience in the chemicals, plastics, medical products, biotechnology, packaging and other related industries. He has held positions in sales and marketing, business development, and research and development in these industries and has also held top management positions including Senior Vice President and President in global management consulting firms serving these businesses. Tom has provided professional services to nearly every major company in these industries and has successfully filled critical positions in senior management, business development, six sigma, manufacturing, research & development, plant management, operations management, process engineering, project engineering, sales & sales management, marketing, human resources and other positions. With both BS and MS degrees in chemistry, Tom worked as a scientist and business manager before becoming a professional recruiter. He knows first-hand the technologies and challenges presented by each different job function and excels at understanding the needs of the organization and matching those needs with the capabilities and experience of the best talent. Candidates and clients value his ability to listen carefully, understand, and guarantee that every engagement results in a successful match. Tom takes pride in the high level of professionalism and service everyone on his team provides. “Our standard is to always provide a level of service that pleasantly surprises both our clients and candidates. Alden Galvanek, CSAM

Alden has over 16 years of experience working within every level of the talent acquisition industry.  He has partnered with organizations, helping them locate and hire top-quality talent in the chemicals, plastics, color-concentrates, and technology industries.  Alden has also held key roles within operations and human resources, maintaining the company’s infrastructure, and personnel systems.  He understands the complexities involved in operating a world-class recruiting operation.  Alden is President, and Co-Owner of The Chatham Group, and keeps a constant focus on developing and strengthening a culture which fosters honesty, openness, transparency, and trust for employees, clients and candidates.

Michael J. Mueller
Director of Recruiting & Operational Excellence

Mike brings over 35 years of multinational Operations, Technical & Quality leadership within the specialty chemicals & materials, coatings, ceramics and Advanced Materials industries. Having held positions of Managing Director, VP & President has enabled Mike to effect meaningful and lasting impact in these enterprises. Within these roles, Mike has led multiple businesses, engineering & technology and operations through change and challenges, deploying the many tools of quality, innovation, continuous improvement and Operational Excellence within multiple industrial & technology environments, improving performance across many segments and venues. Having key leadership responsibilities and achievements in start-ups, small, medium & large business, both private and public provides Mike with solid insights into differing organizational dynamics, cultures and operating philosophies. This unique set of skills enables him to enhance the Client-Candidate matching experience in an expedient and efficient manner fostering success for all parties. Realizing that the successful match extends well beyond the quantitative skills of the candidate, Mike is keenly aware of those attributes contributing to overall positive achievement and is adept at finding not only the best technical match, but also the best cultural match for our clients.

Bob Grashoff
Director of Recruiting – Specialty and Industrial Gases

Bob works as a Recruiter, with responsibility for the Industrial Gas Division of our practice. Bob brings to The Chatham Group over 30 years of experience in the industrial gas industry. He spent his entire career at Air Products and Chemicals where he worked in sales, sales management, general management and mergers and acquisitions. During that time he traveled over two million air miles and has done business in twelve different countries. Bob has an MBA from the College of William and Mary and an undergraduate degree in Public Administration from the University of Missouri.

Carrington D. Smith
Director of Recruiting – Specialty Chemicals

In providing value to both clients and candidates, Carrington leverages over 25 years of his background skills in the chemical industry. His experiences have spanned research and development, innovation management, intellectual property licensing, venture capital, mergers and acquisition and general management. He has direct individual and management experience in all of these areas and can understand what it takes to fulfill such roles in a diverse range of organizations. Further, he has been in the position of candidates and can appreciate the need to advance one’s career via both traditional in-house promotions or by transitioning to new employers. Carrington spent 21 years with Air Products and Chemicals, progressing through many technology and business roles in the Fortune 500 industrial gases and chemicals company. In 2014, Carrington joined MPD Chemicals, a private equity-backed custom manufacturer of specialty chemicals, as its CEO. Via organic and inorganic growth, multiple areas of internal continuous improvement, and empowering its employees, Carrington led MPD through a journey culminating with the sale of the company in 2019. With management and leadership experience at both large public multinational and small-midsize private companies, Carrington can help a diverse array of clients with their executive and technical recruiting needs. He has a Ph.D. in Chemistry with a focus in Polymer Science from Virginia Tech and a B.S. in Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Caroline Sangal, PhD, CSAM
Chief Executive Recruiter

Caroline is a strategic and tactical powerhouse recruiting for the most demanding technical careers. As an integral team member of The Chatham Group for 7+ years, Caroline has achieved Pacesetter for 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022 which counts her to be among the best of the best within the global MRI Network. Caroline is a CSAM® Certified professional indicating a complete commitment to delivering only the highest level of global recruiting excellence. Caroline strives to apply her experience and education to be of value to both candidates and clients. She approaches her work with the goal of being the recruiter she wishes she had while in industry, focusing on bringing integrity and value to every interaction. Caroline holds a PhD in Polymer Science and a BS in Chemistry from the University of Akron. She had over 10 years of industrial experience in Product Development, R&D and Technical Service prior to joining The Chatham Group. She understands the technologies, markets and applications which is essential in finding the key talent needed in the most demanding careers. Best yet, she is easy to talk with and her enthusiasm and strong desire to help others advance in their careers makes her a great recruiting partner. At The Chatham Group, Caroline focuses on placing technical talent in her key industries of experience: polymers, specialty chemicals, adhesives, paints and coatings, bio-pharma, rubber, thermoplastic elastomers, and paper.

John Hillenbrand
Recruiter / Talent Advisor

John joined the Chatham Group after closing out his 37-year industrial career spanning four companies and multiple industries. He’s committed to serving clients and candidates by leveraging his diverse leadership experiences in research & development, engineering, product/process development, design, innovation, corporate venturing, intellectual property management, product management, continuous improvement, and operations. His industrial roles have included packaging (both rigid and flexible), building materials, composite reinforcements, industrial polymers, automotive, personal care, safety and protection, aramid fibers, and elastomers.
Reflecting on his career, having been the beneficiary of someone who believed in him and took a chance on him at different pivotal moments is why John wants to return the favor to anyone he can help in navigating their career paths. Having relocated several times with his wife and kids while at DuPont, Owens Corning, Armstrong Flooring, and Graham Packaging, he understands that a role change can have far-reaching implications for the candidate and the family their overall support system.

John received his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and his master’s and doctoral degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, all in chemical engineering. He is an Adjunct Professor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Fox Business School at Temple University. He continues to stay active in professional associations as a member of the American Chemical Society, a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and an Emeritus member of the Innovation Research Interchange.

Michael Hunt
Recruiter / Talent Advisor

Michael brings over 25 years of experience in business development, technical marketing, and research and development in specialty chemicals, polymer contract research, and synthetic textile fibers with companies including DuPont, Dow, and Milliken Chemical. Michael spent much of his career at the customer interface in various industries, understanding and delivering on technical and market needs. He is committed to bringing this same approach to serve clients and candidates.
Michael is an active member of the American Chemical Society Division of Polymer Chemistry (ACS POLY) and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE).
He has a B.S. and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, focused on Polymer Science with Professor Joseph DeSimone.

Adam Mueller
Recruiter – Advanced Materials

Joining the Chatham Group in 2019, Adam brings an engineering background with experience in the broad field of advanced materials. He has his degree in Materials Engineering with his specialization being Bioengineering Biomaterials from Clemson University. His focus within the Chatham Group lies with finding talented Process Engineers, Production Engineers, Project Engineers, and other similar titles in the advanced materials industry. Some of Adam’s greatest strengths include outside of the box problem solving, and taking his engineering process improvement mindset and applying it to the recruiting process.

Frank Fadil
National Recruiter – Chemicals

Frank brings to The Chatham Group 30 years of experience in the global petrochemicals, chemicals, plastics, medical devices and pharmaceuticals industries. He is now channeling his proven entrepreneurial, consulting and general management acumen to assist organizations in finding and developing the best talent. Earlier in his career, Frank held the position of Global Business Development Director/QA Manager for medium size generic pharmaceuticals and medical diagnostic companies. His experience also includes twenty years in management, and industrial consulting with several major industrial management-consulting firms. This included fourteen years in technical management and quality assurance positions at a major pharmaceutical company. He holds both BS and MS Degrees in Chemistry and completed advanced studies in Physical Chemistry. At The Chatham Group, Frank remains focused on working with clients in the chemicals and related science-based industries to confidentially identify the most talented individuals and successfully bring them on board. He enjoys the challenge of his mission, and the opportunity to make new contacts at both senior and middle level management positions through networking.

Jana Ropski
Operations Administrator 

Jana joined The Chatham Group in February 2016 as an Internet Researcher. She has since become our Operations Administrator helping maintain the company’s infrastructure and personnel systems. She is passionate about her job and working hard to provide the best to our Candidates and Clients. Jana views every day as a new opportunity to impact people’s lives and does her best to be a light to brighten their day. As the Operations Administrator for all of our departments, she wears many hats.

Evan Charles
Sr. Internet Scientist

Evan joins the team as the Sr. Internet Scientist. Six years of industry experience in executing and developing HPLC-MS /MSMS analytical methods within a cGMP/GLP laboratory (21 CFR Part 11) for downstream pharmaceutical analysis. Track record shows consistent drive to achieve in challenging environments. Excels in the analysis of complex results, troubleshooting, instrument maintenance, critical thinking and computer interfacing. Evan currently works with the specialty gas recruiting team to screen, test, and qualify applicants through the use of The Chatham Group’s qualifying interviewing techniques.
